No, I can't stop blogging. Why do you ask?
Woo, let's mix up the names. Hong Kong Chinese tend to pick English names to append to their Chinese names, so I'm using that tradition here. They're all cute anyway. And I "he"'d Terriermon, no biggie.
Also... OFFICIAL info on how Ryo's universes tie together. He is in fact the same guy in 01 and 02 and the games, and he has a specific timeline. This is one well organized info page and Pojo's entry about him, including Cyberdramon's info.
Oh, and this lovely: It's mostly hogwash and out of date, but isn't the button cool? ^^
a season for respite
He was the last person Henry expected to see, despite it all. All the other kids were taking time off with their families. It was true Henry was still in Shinjuku proper, at the Wild Bunch's makeshift HQ, but he was with his dad too.
"Jen!"
Henry actually jumped, nearly dislodging Terriermon from his already wobbly perch. "Momantai, it's just Ryo."
Yes, it was. There was the same garishly orange sweater which concealed his lean physique. The startling blue eyes that took him in, head to toe. "Why are you still here, Jen?"
"What does it look like we're doing, huh? We're saving the world!" Of course between Ryo and Terriermon it was impossible to get a word in edgewise. Henry glared at his digimon for the comment, and was met with his usual unrepentant smirk.
"I was about to ask you the same thing...." Henry looked over at Mizuno-san, who was watching them with interest.
A warm hand pressed on his shoulder. Henry was still not used to looking up to talk to Ryo. "You haven't slept."
"I have."
Ryo knowingly glanced at Terriermon. Henry sighed; naturally the digimon would give him the lie. "C'mon, let's get out of here."
"But I was helping Mizuno-san..."
With an odd twinkle in his eye, Mizuno-san shook his head. "You kids go ahead! You need a little fun anyway, right?" He laughed, deeply and heartily. Henry had agreed with Terriermon when he'd commented (loudly) that the creator of the Blue Cards had a screw loose. Still, the man was frighteningly perceptive. He already knew Ryo and Henry were seeing each other, when Mr. Wong hadn't been told yet.
Henry was strangely determined to tell his father and mother of their relationship. It would probably upset them both, and likely earn odd looks from Rinchei-niisan and Jaarin-neesan. After the battle was over, he would tell them. Ryo had understood immediately. No matter what kind of trouble it brought them, it was a promise. The battle would end. And both he and Ryo would be alive to speak to it.
"I'll go see what Lopmon and Suzie are doing," Terriermon declared after another glance from Ryo. Honestly, he had to figure out how to escape their mutual plotting. Though it really wasn't necessarily -against- him. Henry nodded, feeling Terriermon's weight launch off his shoulder; he watched the small digimon trot off to the family area.
He followed Ryo through the twisting corridors of the office building. After a few turns Henry didn't know where he was. Reluctantly he admitted to himself that he was zoning out. He didn't even notice when the older boy took his hand. Ryo always seemed to know where he was going anyway. It was a trait Henry envied a bit. "...hey, Jen. You really haven't been sleeping. You have bags under your eyes."
"Aa. I'll be all right."
Inexplicably Ryo smiled. The thing with Akiyama Ryo's smiles was that they were usually unexpected and always stunned Henry to the core. His chin tilted up in an almost-smirk but his expression was open and bright. If he'd gone through a fraction of what Ryo had, he'd--- "--- burn out, Jen."
"Hmm?"
Ryo laughed, the sound echoing down the hallway. "C'mere, you!" Simultaneously he hugged Henry and pulled him down onto a plush couch.
Henry leaned on his soft sweater. "I still don't get why you're here."
"What, you look like someone from Night of the Living Dead and you don't know why?"
Henry smiled tiredly, enjoying the slow backrub Ryo was giving him. "I thought you were with your dad."
Ryo shrugged. "He knows I'm gonna come home. And if there's one thing he doesn't cut corners on, it's keeping my priorities straight." He hugged him tighter.
Priorities.... A dull warmth spread through Henry. He nestled in despite himself. "...where are we, anyway?"
"Oh, some conference room. Facing Fuji." Away from the D-Reaper, of course. "Uh uh, don't think so hard. I see you." Strong arms tucked him closer, and at last Henry began to feel the hours of fatigue. "Rest, Jen."
It was a tone of voice which brooked no argument. Besides, it was easy to let his eyes get heavy and to slip into sleep in the circle of Ryo's embrace.
~~~
"... I told him to push the big red button again but he wanted to Bit Knuckle through the elevator shaft!"
"I did not!"
"Did so!"
"Guys, Henry's sleeping..."
Henry chuckled softly. "Not anymore." He blinked over at the digimon. Monodramon was now trying to turn a rolling chair upside down while Terriermon tried to push him on it, not under it. It was kind of funny to watch Terriermon get as exasperated with the other digimon as Henry got with him.
Ryo's voice was next to his ear. "Sleep well?"
Henry blinked, finally realizing that he was now comfortably sprawled between Ryo and the couch back. The other boy was reclining, legs up on the cushions and one arm around Henry. "Yeah, I think so," Henry said, feeling his cheeks heat up.
Ryo smiled again, his eyes lidding. That calm gaze made Henry want to relax too. He glanced over at Terriermon, who had managed to direct Monodramon onto the chair back. His friend understood immediately, and with a giggle and a wave he pushed the office chair around the room and out the door, Monodramon hooting all the way.
"...be careful, guys!" Ryo called. "They'll probably give some poor programmer a heart attack."
''They've been fighting almost non-stop since this started. They should have a little fun." Henry shifted, realizing that as Cyberdramon, Ryo's digimon had probably been fighting for months. It was an existence Henry still couldn't comprehend.
"Yeah, well we humans need a break from the fighting too." Ryo ran his hand through Henry's hair, sighing as each tuft brushed his fingers. The weird-but-good feeling Henry was getting more familiar with seemed muffled through the sleepy-warmth. He noticed it was nearly dusk, probably time for the impromptu meal at the main room. It was the only time any of the Wild Bunch or the former Hypnos members left their computers, besides to sleep and wash. He should probably go see his dad, Henry thought. Only, he didn't really want to leave yet...
"You're thinking too hard again." Ryo grinned, though he let Henry sit up. "I took care of dinner."
"You sure do prepare for everything, Ryo." Henry got up and stretched. Shedding his jacket, he automatically went through a simple form to center his breathing as Ryo laid out the rice cakes and dumplings. Only towards the end did he notice how he was distracting Ryo. Another weird-but-good feeling.
Ryo pulled up a chair, splitting the disposable chopsticks and laying them next to Henry's plate, on the left side. "I do a lot of preparing for the unexpected. The expected's not so hard."
They ate in silence for a while. It was nice, Henry had to admit. They were far enough away from the rest of the group to have some privacy. Henry and Terriermon were the last "experimental sample" in the vicinity, so their attention was almost constantly needed. Henry missed being able to blend into a room full of adults, observing instead of acting. It was the only environment where he really could blend in completely. He sighed at that. Those days were probably gone; everyone would recognize him now.
On the other hand it was odd to have the attention of his family. There had always been Rinchei and Jaarin, and then Shuichon to compete with. His older brother and sister excelled at sports and school, and left the computer stuff to their father and little brother. He was so different at home, sometimes. He interrupted, he argued, he teased and butted in. You just had to be loud to be heard at all. Now, when he spoke, a hush would fall over the table. Rin' and Jarrie had visited a couple of times since the programming team had relocated to the building. Henry could still feel the weight of their gazes, so full of respect and awe. It was just weird. He wasn't sure if it was good... but he didn't think it was going to change anytime soon.
He looked up to see Ryo watching him. This was definitely a good feeling. Ryo winked at him, lips twisting up fondly. It occurred to Henry that he should apologize for being so quiet, after he'd gone through all the trouble to get this time away. Ryo wouldn't accept it, though. It was definitely odd to think that someone would be so focused on him that even long silences were worth observing.
"Two yen for your thoughts?"
Henry shrugged. "Selfish stuff... how things have changed in my family." Ryo raised a brow at 'selfish', but it was true. Ryo had hardly any family to get attention from, and his dad barely tolerated Monodramon. And on the streets, he was mobbed by dozens of anonymous people who wanted to get a piece of the legendary tamer. "And how nice it is to get away for a while."
"I knew you'd come around."
Henry laughed. "Yeah, my mom always said I'm as stubborn as my dad. Really... it's nice. Thanks."
Ryo studied him for a moment. "But?"
He blinked. "Ah..."
Ryo gently dislodged his hand from his D-Arc. Henry hadn't noticed how hard he was gripping it. "It's getting harder and harder to sit around without fighting, isn't it."
Henry sighed, nodding. Ryo was speaking for himself too. On the other side of the building, and all over the world, the bubble of chaos was spreading. It was already doing such horrible things to the digital world. "It must have been hard to see all that destruction, on Grani's recording."
Ryo turned his face. For a moment Henry thought he'd said the wrong thing. "I've seen it on the edge a lot of times," Ryo said quietly. "But never... decimated, like this."
"...Ryo? You downloaded all the recordings, didn't you."
He turned back to Henry, a little sheepish. "Yeah, I did."
Henry touched Ryo's sleeve. "You really got to love that place."
"In a way." Ryo twined his fingers with Henry's, his eyes unusually distant. "It was lonely and unfeeling, at times. And constantly holding Cyberdramon back was pretty draining. But I'm kind of its protector."
Something in his pensive gaze piqued Henry's curiousity. Not I acted as its protector. Ryo had said I am its protector. "You're... supposed to be? Or you chose to be?"
Ryo pushed his plate away, scooting his chair closer. "Jen, you watched the TV shows, didn't you?"
"A little. Mostly I got into the games."
"... do you believe in destiny?"
[unfinished as I too need to eat, shocking as that may sound.]
Re: the latest Tamers review. I enjoy your reviews very much -- they're what all reviews should be, concise, thorough, and personal. However I was wondering if you chose to omit the moment when Jeri used the puppet to bite. You know what I mean. It was only a second, but that was the single most horrifying moment of the series, I think. Animal imagery aside, given what I know about Japanese culture and the emphasis on the group over the individual, and the unfortunate side effects, even today, of young Japanese people who think they've failed their families -- to say the least, it hit me like a sledgehammer. I'm not sure you -should- mention it, just wanted to point it out.
The episode also echoed a very important message for any child, young or old, who has been abused, neglected, or otherwise mistreated (and one is too many): **It's not your fault.** Most of us, thankfully, realize this. Sadly, many people go through life fighting to believe that. Just shows that Digimon is a different kind of kids' show.
Contemplating Raven Dreams.
Contemplating getting a live journal so I'll get all but two of my friends on that neat... friends feature.
Certainly not contemplating doing any work. God forbid.
This was a total dudes episode. Peace out. Show me your Vulcan ears. Hit the surf. Now, this is a knife.
*snerk* In other words, despite the angst and mayhem, this was filler.
But it was good filler.
I want a sub of this, I think things were smooshed around.
*dons Science Hat*
D-Reaper's Feast Jeri: Oh Beelzemon, this is all my fault.
Jeri's burbling again.
Yes, let's all mourn for Beelzemon. A true friend to the end. Shu is not buying it...
Jeri: I hate this, I hate this, I hate this...! Just let me out!
The world would be better off without me. Ohhhshit.
Henry: If we go after it without any idea what we're up against, we could sacrifice the world's only hope -- us! Obvious Brothers attack. Poor dudes.
One week later.
Henry's got his green jacket. I am such a freak.
Kai! Yesss! they didn't cut him out. Okinawan surfer dude. LOL. very tan. Okinawans are more Pacific Islander looking.
Terriermon's being scanned -- difference between digimon and the D-Reaper.
Henry picks him up and hugs him. awwwww. Sub! Want a sub here!
temperature's increasing...
OH MY GOD. She's biting her own neck with the puppet. To cut one's own throat... That has to be the single most disturbing... gggaah. Calumon's right, stop listening to that rag! That has such resonance to Japanese culture, even today, when there is a sense that it is better to kill yourself than to bring dishonor to your family.... *shivers*
Takato: I heard Jeri...
Henry gets a red card from Shibumi / Mizuno. who needs a chill pill, btw.
Rika and Renamon biomerge. Siiigh. very dramatic-cool.
2:46 PM thoughts.... if the coca growing regions in S. America were made to grow sugarcane and cacao, would the child slave farms in Africa growing cacao get worse or better? and U.S. children keep eating chocolate bars while some pay money for cocaine
I have a tilted view of Tarot and runes and I Ching and horoscopes and all that fun stuff. I figure, they are broad personality types based on actual data over thousands of years of misleading people. Thus, once in a while, statistically, a group of people will actually coincide with their prognosticated futures.
Annndd... I think I'm one of them. I won't bore you with the syzygy which occurred in the year of my birth, nor the similarities and differences between my traditional Greek horoscope and my Chinese horoscope. Nor will I begin to speculate what loser of a karmic drainhole I'm reincarnated from because I will fucking kill them when I find them. It's all a load of hogwash. The best way to make use of the so-called "entertainment purposes" of these things is to know yourself *before* you take them. Which I do... (nothing like finding out from the psych professor / practicing counselor's lecture that you understood death about four years before most kids should, developmentally.)
Without further ado....
The Hierophant: Faith in tradition and the old school. A justified and ancient source of power. Being supportive, sympathetic and loyal. Receiving instructions, learning, guidance or inspiration. The ability to hear a higher or inner voice. May also indicate a religious ritual, such as a marriage or an initiation.
That's interesting. I always identified the most with The Moon, the madness and freedom of creativity. But the last part, about voice... seems more apropos. Maybe I'm just getting older.
Rune (Equivalent of "- - - - - -")
Ken is the rune of light and knowledge, driving away darkness and ignorance and revealing hidden truth. This rune also brings forth images of friendship and comfort. Ken is the light of inspiration, the light of imagination, and a beacon in the darkest hours.
Ken also means sword in Nihongo... I like that. It's perfect. It's what I've always pictured myself as, a clear, hard prism. Not that it's always fun being a prism, when the world gets ugly. But still.
Birth Mates (Equivalents of "11/--/1979")
Identity:
Albert Einstein, Bruce Willis, Francis Ford Coppola, George W. Bush, H. G. Wells, Ho Chi Minh, Jessica Alba, Lenny Kravitz, Louis B. Mayer, Michelle Yeoh, Pamela Colman Smith, Robert De Niro, Roman Polanski, Sarah Michelle Gellar, William Gibson, William Randolph Hearst
Eww? Bushie? HCM? Two bitch-dolls? But cool! Albert Einstein, Bill Gibson, H.G. Wells. My favorite's not on there, Goldie Hawn.
This is just eerie... not sure what factory and volume are doing, but the rest... and LOOK! It's bloody RfP! Addiction, flower, pleasure. Kitten! ^_^ And a bitties for Maple. (She's not a serpent, she's just neurotic.) And some violence, but that's me. ^^ Cage... well, yes.
Private Persona (Equivalents of "- - - - -")
Identity:
Alchemy, Challenge, Clown, Guru, Killer, Lyric, Soul, Touch, Water, Work
This last bit is just me getting complicated with each iteration. ^^ Let's seeeee.... identity is kind of interesting. "clown guru killer" sounds like a metal punk band. Water's a connection to Scorpio, as well as my close proximity to the sea and/or rivers. "Touch" is heartening.
Mirror is also intriguing. Master and scholar. Ripple... er, I guess? Unless it's a potato chip ripple, I don't like potatoes much. Chameleon = yes. Fiction = yes! Guitar does not fit anywhere, I have no musical aptitude... I like a good lick though? Like violins more. Pentacle is the Tarot suit based on practicality and money and material goods... yeah, that fits, kinda. Rodent and skunk? Huh? I'm low to the ground? Victim, hopefully not in that mindset anymore; and thank goodness I never actually fell prey to anyone but myself.
The distant is where it's interesting. Biology. Clone. Helix. Science. Uranus, planet representing technology and forward thinking. And then Father, Freemasonry, Emerald... my dad and grandfather were actually freemasons (yep, I've been inside their secret sanctums and stuff... I imagine it's different in the states, but it's kinda mystical and cool, except with grownups and then you go eat brunch.) Emerald is his birthstone. Throw in "healer" if you want the physician angle. Zero mother images.
Library, poem, script, mentor, muse, healer -- neat! Terror, violence, creation, destruction, danger, harmony = gimmes. Jaguar and whale and unicorn. Too many biblical images to count... Speed and endurance. Juxtaposition, loop, helix, pattern. Indigo and green. Annd tequila! Da dah da da da dat daah, da dah da-da da-da daaa, da dah da-da da-da daaah, da dah da da dat dah, da dah da-da da-da daa. Tequila!
Explanation
      The profile above uses your public name and nickname to reveal words that equate with your public role and private persona. The different ways that words may be associated with your names are:
Identity: These are words whose numeric value is an exact match. For example, the numeric value of "Adolf Hitler" is 110, which is the same numeric value as "Osama Bin Laden" (as bad luck would have it, Adolf and Osama share the same Tarot card and birth path as well). Identities are common in some fundamental way, although the commonality may be very obscure. You might think of words as the siblings of their identities.
Product: These are words whose numeric value is a superset of another. For example, the numeric value of "Fulfillment" is 130, which is a superset of the numeric value of "Peace", which is 30. Products are things that you can create from their components.
Component: These are words whose numeric value is a subset of another. For example, the numeric value of "Sex" is 48, which is a subset of the numeric value of "Sharon Stone", which is 148. Components are things that make up a product.
Mirror: These are words whose numeric value is a digit by digit reflection. For example, the numeric value of "Rose" is 57, whereas the numeric value of "Thorn" is 75. Mirrors are things that belong together, either as compliments or as opposites. Like a thorn to a rose, mirrors are often unrelated in what they offer, but inextricably connected nonetheless. Words are sometimes thought of as the allies or enemies of their mirrors.
Cause: These are words whose value matches the secondary numeric value of another. For example, the date "9-11-2001" has a numeric value of 14 (9+1+1+2+0+0+1=14), the word "Warning" has a numeric value of 86, and the word "Martyr" has a numeric value of 95. If you add up the digits of "Warning" (8+6=14) and "Martyr" (9+5=14), the results equal the value of "9-11-2001". Causes are things that precede their effects.
Effect: These are words whose secondary numeric value matches the value of another. For example, the numeric value of "Winter" is 89, and the numeric value of "Ice" is 17. If you add up the digits of "Winter" (8+9=17), the result equals the value of "Ice" (17). Effects are things that follow their cause.
Distant: These are words whose secondary numeric values are an exact match. For example, the numeric value of "Rome" is 51, "War" is 42, and "Conquest" is 114. If you add up the digits (5+1=6, 4+2=6, 1+1+4=6), each one equals 6. Distants are things that are loosely related, like cousins within a family.
8:26 AM random our house is very very very fine house
Not sure if next week's episode is new or not, but in two weeks it's the one hour season finale of Digimon.
Correction. The one hour series finale of Digimon Tamers.
Worthy of the epic. And only making it harder to resist getting the matching OAV. It's bad enough I missed the OAV with Ken. It's bad enough the first three are so maniacally cut up, including cutting out the 01 kids turning into babies and lots of hothot shots of Yamato. It's bad enough the original animation looks barely professional enough to pass a kindergarten art hour. There's two other kids we probably won't get to meet in Tamers otherwise. Must gather more information.
The *series finale*.
episode 28, from the Sage Page:
Watch Sage in this episode. He screams. That is not like him. Do you know how much pain he must be in?
Silly I for not digging this deep. I much prefer this to Theria's. ^^
After being raised as a girl, Seiji was understandably upset. He became quote rebellious. He loved the playing with swords, but he hated all the virtues, honor, etiquette that were associated with it. To teach him restraint, his grandfather made him take up bonsai and the bamboo flute. It worked very well, and Seiji now has a very calm soul.
One time, he took the Date's most sacred sword and played with it in the courtyard. While playing, he broke one of his grandfather's bonsai. His grandfather never noticed, though, because he planted a tulip in its place, but Seiji still dreads the punishment that will come if his grandfather finds out.
In elementary school, Seiji's friends cried whenever they saw both of his eyes, saying he looked scary. Seiji's eyesight is very sharp and the paleness of his eyes makes them look intense. Yayoi suggested Seiji cover one of his eyes so they wouldn't be so hard. Yayoi also used Seiji as a dress up doll.
While Seiji still keeps one of his eyes hidden, he doesn't regularly wear pink ribbons.
Shin was raised by his mother and sister, giving him a gentle, polite, and slightly effeminate personality. Considerate and kind, he doesn't like fighting (and rejects his yoroi in Kikoutei Densetsu). Despite this, he's been trained in bo and spear combat since his youth.
Normally, Shin is quite cheery; however, when enraged, he can become a blind, violent animal.
Being raised by two women, Shin has stories to tell -- or stories he'd rather like to forget. In an elementary school medical check-up, the nurse asked Shin had to strip down to his underpants. He was hesitant. He was wearing his sister's panties. Shin swears it was an accident. Sure.
Touma's a great baseball player. His loves the Hanshin team and is pretty aggressive against Kyodai fans. He likes to play go, chess, puzzles, videogames, study, and read detective stories. He jogs and swims, too. (This may go against Theria's... I believe it lists him as a baseball -fan-, not an active player. Still, I can see him getting buried in stats. And scratching. But that's another story!)
He also likes sleeping and eating. Touma has low blood pressure, making it hard for him to get up. He usually wakes up at 11 AM. Despite his appearance, Touma eats as much as Shuu (or more). He really likes chocolate.
Touma's very passive, but he has a high pride and willingness to take revenge.
Kaos
Kaos is a priest in the militant Shugendo order, a faith combining Buddhism and Shinto. His staff is a shakujo, used by Buddhist monks to aid in prayer. The chiming rings supposedly scare away evil spirits. In reality, they scare away insects.
Byakuen
A sacred beast, Byakuen may have been an ascetic or philosopher in a previous life. He likes to play soccer.
