Digimon Frontier's US debut is set for 9.9 on UPN. Digimon will air Monday through Friday at 7:30 AM EST and Sundays at 10 AM. Most likely, the weekdays will be the realm of Adventure, 02, and Tamers, with Frontier laying claim to the Sunday slot.
The announcement, while making concrete the immediate future, doesn't put hearts at ease. ABC Family handled Digimon well. Will UPN be as kind? It's hard to say. This move puts Digimon back on a broadcast network rather than a cable station. It's a high profile animation, and by being shown on broadcast, it'll hopefully reach more viewers, but UPN is a fringe network at best, and there are large portions of the country where it does not reach.
Even if you have UPN, that doesn't guarantee you Digimon. As Mark Baggio notes, "some people may not be able to watch if their station opts for infomercials". Digimon's being packaged with other Disney animations with broadcast at the discretion of local affiliates. If they choose to air Digimon at different times from those posted above, they're free to. If they choose not to air Digimon at all, they're free to. When Saban pulled out of FOX Family Worldwide, he set in motion a wheel of causality that killed FOX Kids, killed his own production company, and completely redefined the animation powers in America. Networks and studios upset, we don't know what Tomorrow will bring. In Japan, Digimon is still going strong with at least two more series confirmed. Baggio speculates, however, that Frontier may be the last to make it to America. Let's hope Disney didn't move Digimon to UPN "to die".
